April 2009: 3rd Annual Wounded Warrior Disabled Sports Project at Liberty Mountain
Some of you may know I run an adaptive snow sports program that teaches people with disabilities to ski and snowboard at Liberty Mountain Resort in Fairfield, PA. The adaptive program is supported by a nonprofit organization, Blue Ridge Adaptive Snow Sports (BRASS). BRASS and Liberty Mountain hosted its 3rd Wounded Warrior Disabled Sports Project (www.dsusa.org) event in February. Seven (7) military personnel and their families spent the weekend skiing, snowboarding, tubing and having a great time. Most of our participants were injured fighting in the global war on terrorism and stationed at Walter Reed Army Medical Center (WRAMC). At Walter Reed they are going through rehabilitation and learning how to use their new prosthetic limbs. We also had a few Walter Reed graduates now enjoying their new sports as a part of their daily lives. A prior participant is now an adaptive snow sports instructor with our program.
